Coldplay brings a rush of hope with latest release “Higher Power”

Coldplay

Coldplay are back with Higher Power, a song built around movement, renewed energy, and the lift that comes from love. The track started in a weird place, arriving on a small keyboard and bathroom sink at the beginning of 2020. That origin provides the song a personal starting point, while its message reaches toward something bigger: Finding a reason to rise after feeling low for too long.

Writing credits are Denise Carite, Federico Vindver, Will Champion, Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland, Chris Martin, and Max Martin (also producer). The song is about the feeling of speeding away after being on your knees for a long time and finding strength in another’s love. That change is time-sensitive, but it is relief, too.

The third dimension of the release is the music video, directed by Paul Dugdale. “Higher Power is a song about being lifted out of a difficult place and given another reason to keep going.” Coldplay takes that emotional turn and makes it a clear, uplifting piece that puts love, recovery, and forward motion at its centre.
