The Weekend Turns The 2020 AMAs Into His Own After Hours Spectacle

The Weekend was not just a performer at the 2020 American Music Awards but a creator of a cinematic experience that became one of the night’s most talked-about moments instantly.

The singer delivered a powerful medley of “In Your Eyes” and “Save Your Tears” on the stage of Los Angeles’ iconic Sixth Street Bridge, sticking to the dark, mysterious aesthetic of his After Hours era.

Again, his bandaged look prompted discussion among viewers who were not familiar with the visual idea of the album. However, as the performance continued, it was obvious that the concept had been meticulously thought out.

Another memorable layer was added to the set when legendary saxophonist Kenny G made a surprise appearance, whose smooth opening set the tone before The Weeknd took over.

And the fireworks lighting up the bridge as we played didn’t feel so much like an awards show as it did like a music video playing out live.
