Aaron Judge shows why it’s unwise for fans to taunt Aaron Judge

In June 2017, Aaron Judge was already becoming one of baseball’s most talked-about young stars. During a Yankees-White Sox game in Chicago, fans in the right-field stands heckled the Yankees rookie throughout the night. The judge heard them, but instead of engaging in a confrontation, he eventually answered in the most baseball way possible: with his bat.

Judge hit a two-run home run to left field in the sixth inning, his 27th homer of the season, helping the Yankees to a 12–3 victory. The moment became memorable not simply because of the home run but because Judge acknowledged the hecklers as he rounded the bases. His response was playful rather than aggressive, turning the exchange into one of those classic moments where crowd noise becomes part of the entertainment.

That was part of what made the incident so enjoyable. Baseball fans are famously passionate, and heckling is hardly a new feature of the sport. Players are expected to block out the noise, concentrate on the game, and respond through performance.

The episode also showed the unusual attention surrounding Judge during his rookie season. He stood 6-foot-7 and was producing enormous power, making him an easy target for fans who wanted to test whether the young star could be rattled. Instead, the night became another chapter in his remarkable early-season run.

There is a simple lesson in the story: fans can have fun, players can have fun, and the best sporting moments often happen when neither side takes the exchange too seriously. In Judge’s case, the answer to the heckling was not an argument.
